Resident of the Month

Senior Donkeys Jasper & Mrs. Potts

When we sadly lost our oldest resident, 34 year-old miniature donkey Freddy, Jasper and Mrs. Potts became the oldest donkeys. They are both on a special diet to keep weight on them so they eat together, separate from the other donkeys. I spend a lot of time with them so they are very special to me. And they always crack me up! They are like an old married couple they way they fight with each other and try to steal the other’s food. They do a cute pseudo-kick to each other if the other gets too close. And lately, they started a new way to torment each other, the first one in their feeding pen starts eating from one bucket and then as soon as the other one comes in, the first donkey will move over to the still full bucket! They both will play this game and it always makes me smile. They also love to lean against one another when they eat. One time, I made the mistake of walking behind Mrs. Potts when her head was in her food bucket and I accidentally brushed against her (she must have thought it was Jasper) and she wound up giving me a swift kick in the knee! It hurt but I knew it was my fault and I think she felt bad afterward. Jasper is 23 and Mrs. Potts is 32 so in human years Jasper is 69 and Mrs. Potts is 96! We love donkeys and these two are very special and very gentle with people. Jasper always comes around when he sees visitors and people love to pet him with his nice thick fur. I love these two sweet old-timers, perhaps it’s because of my own old-timer status!
